In December 2024, partner CTEN (Community Technology Empowerment Network) took a significant step in further strengthening the collaboration of the project consortium with local communities in Bidibidi Refugee Settlement. Through its inception and end-of-year feedback meetings, CTEN set the stage for the SUNNY project, which aims to drive community-based protection, education, and livelihood improvements through enhanced and sustainable access to energy services.

The ECMSPC project targets mainly South Sudanese and Congolese refugees including the host community living in the refugee settlements of Rhino, Imvepi, Lobule and Kiryandongo refugee settlements. The targeted community sectors include general protection, SGBV, Education, Livelihood, Child protection, Leadership, WASH, Health,Shelter,environment and Legalstructures engaging women, men, children, youth, PSNs, the elderly and the marginalised.

Rhino Camp
Sensitizing the community on COVID-19 protocols. The team was able to visit the near markets and other crowded areas to advise and communicate SOPs.

Bidibidi
With funding from UKAID, CTEN through ReHope Bridge project was able to train the over 500 youths on digital skills. This created both formal and informal jobs.

Imvepi
Refugees constructing their hats provided by the government of Uganda. Many are given farm lands for cultivations by the host community to provide food.

Kiryandongo
In an attempt to avoid road accidents, CTEN installed Zebra crossings in Kiryandongo Refugee settlement to control speed limits for road users.
